I have been documenting the emerging direct action group UK Uncut. In only a few months, from a single action in London in October 2010, UK Uncut has spread to up to fifty-five towns and cities, highlighting many examples of corporation tax avoidance, while at the same time, building a powerful grassroots mass movement resisting the current Government cuts. Many of the actions have been fun, peaceful and humorous. Support for UK Uncut Liverpool from the general public has been amazing, with many Saturday shoppers stopping for a chat and people genuinely interested in finding out more. Below are a few highlights and some tear sheets of published photographs.
One particular action from back in February saw UK Uncut activists set up a hospital inside the Liverpool One branch of RBS owned Natwest. The aim was to protest against cuts to public services, they argued cuts would be unnecessary if corporations did not employ massive tax avoidance policies. 4 patients played dead and dying from high interest rates and haemorrhaged bonuses whilst 3 completely untrained 'big society doctors' tried valiantly to administer cash injections. Later they moved the 'hospital' to a branch of the HSBC forcing it to close early and finally set up a 'field triage' outside Vodafone on Church Street.
Press Association and Demotix are currently marketing my images and they have been used in several publications. "I have employed David for conferences, presentations, social engagements, marketing materials, open days, portrait shots, official document signings amongst many others. David has always been amenable to our sometimes short notice and has delivered our photos in a quick time frame as agreed and sometimes much quicker depending on our needs. He has always been very helpful, he follows and delivers on the brief and is able to give additional value to jobs with minimal briefs. I am more than happy to recommend David and he will no doubt deliver the same quality he provides us."
